Is there a trick to applying dark eyeshadow and not ending up with streaks at the end of the night?

there's a product called eye shadow primer which keeps your eye shadow from smudging, fading or ending up all streaky. there are a couple different brands that make it but the Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion is what all the employees at Sephora swear by...its a little pricey but i bought it and its sooo worth the money because it saves you from reapplying eyeshadow which keeps you from having to buy shadow so often

it comes in a purple box and can be found in the urban decay section of sephora...there's also one by stila that works well but im not sure of the pricing

Yes, I agree with the Urban Decay primer, I've heard great things! Priming with loose powder before eyemakeup, or priming with concealer might help (although the concealer tip won't help much if you have oily eyelids)

Another method might be to apply the shadow wet. Dampen your brush with a bit of water (just a bit, no water should be dripping out), then tap it into your eyeshadow to pick up colour, and apply it to your eye lid. Works great for close to the lash line (like eyelining, or where you apply the darkest colour for your smokey eye makeup). After it dries, you can blend a bit. Beware though, this method makes colours go on more intensely, so play with it a bit to see how it works for you.

the quality of the shadow - if its cheap it will do that - good eye shadow stays nice all night.
Apply a primer on the lid or translucent powder before applying eyeshadow should help the shadow stay for longer
You need to apply an eye primer to your lid before you apply the shadows. The primer reduces the oils that cause those caked up lines that you get after a few hours. It will also lock in color and keep your shadow looking fresh all night long!

Hope this helps and more power to not checking the mirror every five minuetes!

P.S. I use Mary Kay Eye Primer. It's works fabulous!
Use a primer on your lids. Urban Decay has a primer potion that is great. Put that on then wait a minute for it to dry. Then continue with eyeshadow.
