Applying the eyeshadow under the eye?

The new Bourjois mini pallets for eyes have this but it's not new: a thin line of your eyeshadow under your eye. I've tried a multitude of brushes and wet/dry but I can't get it right. Coloured eyeliner is too harsh for some of the effects, specially the ones that use a slightly thicker line. I love those looks you see in magazines where the whole eye is made up, I'd love to try one for going out but regardless of the product it just looks wrong.Applying the eyeshadow under the eye?
its definately all in the brush and the technique and blending. you need a brush that will deposit the colour where you want it and another that will blend and soften the colour. don't use eyeshadow wet under the eye, it'll make the colour too strong but choose soft eyeshadow colours and blend well. If you wear foundation, you can erase anything that is too thick or any mistakeswith a qtip dipped in a little foundation. Makeup is fun, don't get so caught up with trying to look like someone in a photograph, use the pictures to inspire you to create your own signature style :)Applying the eyeshadow under the eye?
OMG i know! i love alicia key's eyemakeup, they always put liner on the bottom, but when i do it i think my eyes look scary and really overdone. =T

i suggest starting lightly.. perhaps try liquid liner on top, and pencil on bottom? also i noticed that a lot of models use a White eyeliner inside the rim, and then a darker pencil/shadow underneath the white! it's almost like faking more white to your eyeball.... weird. i have a white pencil but it's cheap so it doesn't look that good.

good luck! i'm gonna keep practicing...
You need to go to Boots and look at the Ruby %26amp; Millie range - they do a great brush for this purpose - the bristles are the end are cut like a square shape and are blunt cut - costs 拢5 - it really does the job.
Get a make-up expert at Boots or Selfridges show you how to apply it

I love it too. It looks really pretty.
Don't do it. It always looks really awful on women 'in real life'. Makes you look like a drag queen.
I think you have to get a make up artist of tv or a magazine to look anything like they do in the mags. Ive tried it and I always end up looking like a panda. Maybe we mere mortals are doomed to looking plain, it seperates us from the supermodels and stars... poor us!

I would recommend getting a stiffer brush, there is a perfect one in Mary Kay's Brush set that is exclusively for that purpose, its called an eyeliner brush. start off by using their colored eyeshadows which can be wetted to give you more control.
Hi, I am a make up artist for 3 years.

Don't sweat it trying to get the thin line under your eyes. the best way is to use your favourite form of lining and go ahead and line under your eyes. then take a cotton swab with a very good make up remover and clean the excess leaving only the right amount for your eyes. then touch up the concealer. This is what I do on myself and my clients and it works great.

Can someone tell me what's the best way of applying eyeshadow for daytime?

just......put it on..................................Can someone tell me what's the best way of applying eyeshadow for daytime?
lighter colors!!! use three shades med shade on the lid darker shade in the middle light shade right underneth the eye brow.eye liner only on the top of eye lid not on the bottom. Can someone tell me what's the best way of applying eyeshadow for daytime?
In front of a mirror with the daylight. Do not put it on with fluorescent lights.
well i think it would be with whatever coller is best for you and what the day you are doing. lightcollers with a darker acsent is always good using the lighter on the full lid then a acsent coller on the lid and use black mascara thow to bring it all out and together.. hope that helped and good luck

Highlight your brow bone with the lightest shade or a light shimmery gold or white. Also use this color in the inner corners of your eyes. Really brightens up the area. Use the medium shade in your crease by moving your applicator back and forth. Now use the darkest shade closest to your eyelashes.

It may seem like a lot, but it's actually quite simple once you get the hang of it. Also use very natural colors like browns and taupes to bring out your skin tone.

I recommend using eyeshadow brushes. A bigger one for the lighter shade and a medium sized one for the other two. They work much better than the applicators that come with the eyeshadow and you can tell the difference. Clean your brushes regularly too. Good luck!
use a makeup brush because it makes the eyeshadow lighter, if you use the brush that comes in the eyeshadow box then is going to be darker and more dramatic.
Start with a full sweep across the upper eyelid. Blending is the key, so using a professional makeup brush will save time and effort. Continue reading how to apply eyeshadow on http://www.pageantrymagazine.com/
I think for daytime, like going to work, shopping, etc., less is best. I mean you can use darker colors if that is what looks best with your coloring, but don't put it on real thick. And stay away from glittery stuff. That is more for a nite on the town, an elegant supper-club, dance-clubs, that type of thing. If you know the place you are going is dimly lit, put all of your make-up on a little heavier than usual. It will show up to your advantage but not make you look 'made-up'.
Using neatural and light colors and standing in natural light.
It depend but if you went to Northstrom or Macy they could show you how to!

Use an eyeshadow brush to apply it. Also i saw on Tyra's show today, fold up a napkin to the shape of a square and put in under your eye to prevent loose eyeshadow from getting onto your skin and causing the raccoon effect

Does applying eyeshadow over your eyeliner help keep it from smearing ?

like applying a little bit of black eye shadow over black eyeliner ?Does applying eyeshadow over your eyeliner help keep it from smearing ?
see if u hav a oily skin dont try this becuase it can cause ur make up to spoil and if it is ok ok or dry then black eye shadow wid black liner would look terrific and wuold not smear

gitashu_jainDoes applying eyeshadow over your eyeliner help keep it from smearing ?
Apllying eye shadow over the eyeliner helps the liner stay and sets it.
Yeah, it does for me. Just make sure you put it on real light.
yes most of the time..another thing that helps is a really good shadow base
No it does not keep it from smearing - all it does is make it more messy... AFTER you've applied your eye shadow, THEN you apply your eyeliner, and you have to let it DRY.... Keep the eye closed until it does... Application of eyeliner should NOT BE RUSHED...

There are some brands that will dry gloss and some that dry matte, but both have to be given time to dry.. NOTHING goes over the top / on top of eyeliner.....
have done it everyday ! It does make the eyes look a bit more smokey, so just be easy with it until you get the hang of it

10 tips and tricks I wish I knew 20 years ago

it took me years to figure out how to apply eyeshadow that:

1. Wasn't crooked (mismatched eyes!)

2. Wasn't too dark or blotchily blended (yes, I know ';blotchily'; is not a word)

3. Didn't extend to the wrong, wrong, wrong upper reaches of my eyelids

After years of seeing makeup artists in action and learning numerous eyeshadow tips and tricks, here are my 10 favorites I wish someone had told me twenty years ago:

Secret #1: Blending is key

Ok, well I sorta knew this, but I wasn't sure HOW TO BLEND. You use three different colors: The base, usually a very light taupe, a highlighter for the crease and a main color for the lid, but how to get them to look as if they merge into each other like the colors of a rainbow? My secret: Start light then go darker.

Brush the base color, apply the lid color and THEN apply the highlighter. Also, don't be too heavy-handed or you'll have to start over. Extra tip: Practice makes perfect. Play with your makeup a few days before a big event.

Secret #2: Choose shadows that make the color of your eyes pop Gone are the days when beauty experts advised against blue shadow. Matching the color of your eye with a shadow actually brings the color out (think blue shadow on blue eyes). At the same time, contrasting colors make eyes pop too (think a deep jeweled blue shadow on deep brown eyes).

Secret #3: Never cover your browbone with deep color -- unless you're doing a cover shoot for Vogue

You don't want the drama too much shadow brings. Apply shadow up to the browbone but don't apply shadow ON the bone unless it's a neutral color or a highlighter.

Secret #4: Highlighter can make or break your look

When applying dark shadow to the crease of your eye, be careful to blend only on the outside edge. Get to close to the eye and you'll cause your eyes to look teeny and beady.

Secret #5: Set shadow with a great base

Primers are super hot right now because they help set makeup that stays for hours. I've found the secret to keeping shadow in place for hours is a shadow base. Almost everyone makes them but I swear by MAC Paints.

Secret #6: Shimmer is hot, but plays up wrinkles

Shimmer makes eyes really pop, but it also highlights heavy lids, lines and wrinkles. A great look for shimmer is to create a 'nude' lid, but apply a bit of gold shimmer to the browbone. Gorgeous!

Secret #7: Smokey is great, but keep it to the lid

Making up a smokey eye? Keep color to the lid and just under the lower lashline. Don't extend color above the crease.

Secret #8: How to pair shadow with red lips

Remember the beauty rule 'Thou Shalt Not Play up the Lips AND the Mouth.' If you're going for dramatic red lips (never out of fashion), cover unsightly blue lines on lids with a concealer or shadow primer and then keep eyeshadow light.

Secret #9: Make eyes brighter with white

A dot of white shadow or pencil on the inside of the eye near the tear duct will make eyes look brighter.

Secret #10: Go for color Taupe and lavender look great on all eye colors. Also consider mixing shades if you bought a color that's just too bold for you. Mixing an electric blue with taupe can turn out the most perfect color.

There are some simple tricks to use to make your eyes gorgeous, no matter what their shape. If you work with your eye's natural shape, you'll enhance their looks.

For Hooded or flat Eyes (your lids look puffy or are flat with no obvious crease)

With a flat brush, apply a thin line of black powder shadow just in between your upper lashes. Next, create the illusion of a higher crease by sweeping a dark shadow (like olive) above the natural crease. Then, brush a lighter, sparkly color on lids and below brows to intensify eyes and give them more depth.

For Close-set Eyes (there's less than an inch between the inner corns of your eyes)

Blend concealer over your entire lid. This will lighten any dark shadows that make eyes look closer together. Next, apply a rich shade like Cranberry beginning above the center of your pupils, and then sweep out to lengthen lids. Last, brush a light shimmer over inner halves of lids and on brow bones to open up the area.

For Deep-set Eyes (you have a shadow surrounding your eyes or a prominent brow bone)

First, use a short-bristled eye-shadow brush to sweep a cream shade across lids and brow bones. Next, line upper and lower lashes with a black eyeliner pencil, keeping it close to your lash roots. Smudge upper line with gray shadow, blending up to brow bones. The color contrast draws eyes out.

Anywho, I'm a novice at applying eye shadow and I've searched the Internet high and low for good instructions. The sites that I like best are

Also, be sure to apply high-quality eyeshadow, not the kind you would find in those 10 dollar mega makeup kits. It makes for easier application. Also, blending is key to good eyeshadow. Another tip, be sure to complete the look with eyeliner and mascara, which should be placed on last.

  • What eye gel/cream do you use to prep your eyes before applying your primer & eyeshadow?

Can you recommend good ones which provide good hydration and moisturise the eye area sufficiently? What eye gel/cream do you use to prep your eyes before applying your primer %26amp; eyeshadow?
I must say that the first thing to do is to wash your face. Some people have oily eyelids and when they put on eyeshadow it makes a disgusting mess. Once your eyelids are dry, put on a powder base that is a white with a hint of yellow. It brings out the contrast in your eyeshadow. It has to be powder base though. powder base makeup drys out oily areas. It helps when you have a zit to, it drys it out. then put your eyeshadow on top of your base. The base brings out the best of your eyeshadows color. What eye gel/cream do you use to prep your eyes before applying your primer %26amp; eyeshadow?
To be frank I have used dozens of eyecreams and found no dignificant difference between high and low end eye creams. Just go to a drug store and work your way through the cheap ones until you have a favourite.

Everyone's skin is different, what is good for one is not for another.
I am not sure if you have any Lumene products around you but there is an eye base that is yellowish and does a great job. It takes away the eye flaws such as dark circles or puffy eyes. The eye shadow looks much better and vibrant with this product as well-

Is it always necessary to apply eyeshadow primer before applying any eyeshadow and also...?

is the matte eyeshadow from makeup forever good?Is it always necessary to apply eyeshadow primer before applying any eyeshadow and also...?
It's not always necessary to apply a primer before your eyeshadow. If you do not have oily eye lids then you more than likely do not have issues with creasing and therefore it's not always necessary.

Makeup Forever's eyeshadows are all fantastic.

I'm looking for any tips on applying cream eyeshadow?

I've lots of experience with powder - but very little with cream, and would like to get any tips out there on the ebst way to apply it, whether you should put it on before applying face powder to your eyes or after, and anything else that you can think of!I'm looking for any tips on applying cream eyeshadow?
When applying cream eyeshadow..I like to use a sponge tip brush, like the one that comes with eye shadows. But first you need to get a paper towel or tissue and fold it in half and put it under your eye like on your cheek so you don't get the eyeshadow everywhere Sponge tip applicators are good for applying the color to your eyes and it soaks up enough to apply it on. .....then get yourself a professional synthetic eyeshadow brush to evenly smooth it over your lids. Carefully brush off access powder with a loose power that you can go over your face and your done. Flawless!!!!I'm looking for any tips on applying cream eyeshadow?
Thank you so much for that - cream eyeshadow is a new area for me (after using powder eyeshadow for over 20 years!) Report Abuse

Don't get any in your eye!
Well.. first you should just leave your face emty than uyou should put some cream on your hand.. and than apply it on your fsce and rub it nicly
